Why Use an Asymmetric Sail Setup?
How
to Choose Sprit Size
Forte offers four sprit sizes to accommodate
your boat, based on Sprit Interior Diameter (ID) :

Sprit
Length
The sprit can be cut to length to fit your
boat. To determine required length, note that sprits
normally extend
24-30” beyond the bow
and that one-third of the sprit length extends beyond the bow.
For example, a sprit that extends 30” beyond the bow infers
that at least 60” of
the sprit be mounted on deck.
If you want a retractable sprit, remember to pick a deck mounting location that accommodates the full sprit length. Forte personnel are happy to answer your questions about sprit size and length.
How to Mount the Sprit & Sail
The
Sprit Kit comes with your choice of deck installation
hardware and sail attachment hardware. If you prefer,
you can order the
bare sprit
pole and
supply your own
hardware. In either case, if you have questions, please call
us at 860-464-5221.
Deck Installation
Hardware
The
sprit must be supported at its inboard end and at its
outboard
bow end. The Sprit
Kit
comes
with hardware to
mount the
sprit
in one of two ways:
Saddle (Part # 1216). The machine-contoured “Starboard” saddle comes with a removable stainless strap, two threaded rods, and stainless knobs. The saddle is sized to fit your sprit ID and the bottom edge can be cut to fit your deck.

Inboard End Deck Fitting (Part # 1217). Schaefer Marine Quick Connect deck plate, used with a machined-composite end fitting, and a machined-plastic outboard end cap with through-hole for a tack line.

Sail
Attachment Hardware. Depending on what kind of sail
(or sails) you’re
flying - asymmetrical, genniker, code 0 - you’ll
need attachment points on the sprit. The Sprit
Kit includes an installed loupe for attachment,
though you can
lash on your own block, which works great on small
sprits.
Loupe
(Part # 1218). A loupe is used for attaching a tack block; the loupe is located with an eyestrap on the sprit's underside to hold it in position.
